Happy Easter to all! Dad and I had a bit of breakfast at the Comfort Inn before going to 9:00 Mass at Saint Peter and Paul where we sat in the overflow room; but we had our own Mass in the overflow room said by a retired priest asked to help out due to the recent death of a priest from that parish. We then packed up the car and headed west to Sacramento. We did a couple drive byes of the state capital. Downtown Sacramento is very pretty and clean. Looked for the governors mansion, but Jerry Brown is likely in hiding as the biggest spendthrift on the planet. We also drove around looking for some demonstration we could participate in, but none were found probably due to it being Easter...not even at Cesar Chavez park! Then we found our way back to the freeway toward San Francisco. Our hope was to spend the day in that beautiful city, drive across the Bay bridge and maybe sit at a quaint table in Sausalito for a cocktail. Mother Nature had other plans. The rain came and was coming down so hard at one point we decided to take a detour to San Jose on I680.
At one point when it was just starting to rain a bit more than a sprinkle, we stopped for a potty break and went into a Burger King...bathrooms out of order but we could have walked across the parking lot to a portapotty. Nope. Across the way as another fast food restaurant was calling me...In-N-Out! However, silly me, they have their Core Values and they're closed on Sundays! So we went to a Peet coffee shop and had a cup of hot tea. Very good and many fewer calories!
We drove through the rain until just before San Jose and after calling several places to find a room for the night and ended up in downtown San Jose at the Fairmont Hotel. Nice place but so very disappointing in so many areas of service, prices and quality of food. Won't be back here. We'll leave in the morning after rush hour traffic and be on our way to Carmel to visit Uncle Bruce (dad's youngest sibling) and Aunt Jane.
We had a good day...again. Both dad and I are tired due to a restless night last night, so it'll be lights out pretty early tonight.
