Saturday 5/6

Happy birthday to a very special person in my life who I hope finds all the happiness, love and peace in the world she deserves!

I visited a young lady this morning for coffee at her home in Wildomar who started working for me the day she turned 16 - Amy.  She use to house-sit and dog sit for me years ago also. She is now married to a man, Price, who is retiring from a 20 year career in the Marine Corps and they have 4 children. She was delightful then, and is delightful now. I just love this girl and I'm so proud of her!

It was a cool, drizzly day here on Kentucky Derby Day.  I guess I never realized that a 2 minute event could cause a television station (maybe more than one station) to spend six hours (at least) on the air preparing for those 2 minutes, or less!  I picked number 6 horse because that's today's date and my horse, who's name escapes me, was in first place for the first quarter mile but then I think he ended up in last place overall. At least I can say my horse won the quarter mile! YEA!  Too bad there isn't a bet for that, or if there there is, I'm not aware of it and didn't make that bet! I do love looking at all of the outfits though and would love to try one of those $2,500.00 mint juleps...just won't pay for it.  I've never even had a mint julep but you never know, I might like them!
Dad and I went to 5:00 Mass at St. Martha's in Murrieta as we did last week.  It's a big Catholic Church and quite crowded for Saturday Mass. Both last Saturday and today, they had young boys and girls celebrating their first Holy Communion.  I remember mine, and my siblings, and there were at least 20 or 30 kids at one Mass for those occasions. Now, there are a handful at multiple Masses.  Interesting. Also, the priest, I think he's the pastor, is from a country in Africa and very, very difficult to understand his English. I think I got part of the sermon about being a good shepherd as that was a common theme throughout the readings, music, etc. It is kind of interesting to see some of the commonalities, as well as the differences in how Masses are said from one parish to the next as we've traveled.
We ended the day with wonderful port wine named Papa's from our winery visit yesterday to Maurice Carrie.  Dad had his over a little cheesecake and vanilla bean ice cream, Jeanne had her port in a glass with cheesecake on the side and I simply enjoyed a small glass of the wine. We probably won't venture out tomorrow as the rain is coming tonight and will be here all day, so they say. So maybe a movie or two and of course some sports sprinkled in here and there as well. The pups will be happy to have us home all day!
