Monday 5/8

Today was a San Diego kind of day...so off we went!  The weather was perfect in the mid 70's so we decided to drive to Coronado Island.  We found this great little park, Bay View Park, with handicapped parking directly in front of the park. And yes, it had a beautiful view of the bay, downtown San Diego, the Midway aircraft carrier, the Coronado bridge, sailboats maneuvering their sails in the bay and just the peace of the world in the sun shining through the leaves of the trees we sat beneath. It was a perfect spot for dad!
We had lunch and a beer at Leroy's Kitchen and Lounge in the heart of Coronado. Although the food was really good, the beer was exceptional! We had (we shared) was a 22 oz. peanut butter milk stout made at a local Southern California brewery called Belching Beaver. I'm not much of a beer girl, but I did enjoy this beer. We drove around after lunch and parked at the beach near Hotel Del Coronado which is near the navel aviation base and watched some mean looking, and very loud jet performing touch and go's. It was awesome!
We drove to the Midway and parked and admired this massive ship while talking about some of dad's experiences in the Navy. David, Kelly and I toured this ship many years ago and I remember David's face light up as he spoke of his time on the USS America during his stint in the Navy. There were a lot of people roaming around the harbor for a Monday. Today was another fabulous day!
